INTRODUTION

2/23/1989

Dear Martin:

The following is my account of this month’s commission.

First off there is the business, of Mr. Smit, an American W.W.II Veteran living in Chicago, he claims that he was used as a slave laborer on a top secret Nazi science occult project in the forests of Romania. He claims they used a powerful bomb to weaken the fabric between the worlds and then used magic to rip a hole in it as to gain help from other worlds. I have examined the cases, and deemed him a threat to use. He has been dealt with accordingly. I will check out his story latter.

There was the, haunting of room 213 in the roadside inn, in northern Wyoming. It turns out that it was three ghosts, and a shade that did the haunting, this to has been dealt with accordingly. There had been a murder of a family, a few years back in the room, for some unknown reason only one of them turned into a shade. The room had not been cleansed so the spirits stayed on.

I found a group of Ghasts hiding in an abandoned warehouse, among the filth I found the remains of at least three humans, and a large amount of human bones. They seemed to be working for another being, I found guns and ammunition, in the warehouse so I believe that there is something larger here.

Pleasure doing business.

Zander

My name is unimportant, but I go by Zander. There are two worlds existing side by side, one a dark shadow of the other, it is from hear that magic flows. The world you believe to be so simple is rather chaotic, the rules that you believe are lies taught to you to hide the truth. The dead, are not always gone, they do not always stay "dead", what you do not know often kills you, and there is magic. It is all around you, look for it and you shall find it, it is there I every brick I the wall, of every building, just waiting, to be used, to be shaped to ones will. There are demons, and fairies, and they usually aren’t nice to you, there are no angles. We or rather you are unprotected, save for the efforts of a few like me.

I am a slayer I am a hunter. I track down and destroy magical entities, undead, and demons. This is my job, this is who I am, it is the job I was meant for, and it is the job I am good at. It is that simple.

This is my story and it is true:

Chapter 1

Slayer

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange æons, even death may die.

-The Necronomicon-

The rain fell heavily, as the sun rose, casting the world into a mist. It was mid April. Not my favorite time of year, I much prefer fall, and early winter, I find that coldness brings out the more primal spirit in people. The motel room was dingy, as the morning sun slanted through the windows, casting shadows over the room. The bedside alarm was flashing 12:12, you just got to love power black outs. Next to it was the copy of the bible that you find in all these hotels, I had left a shot glass half full of vodka on top. I turned trying to get back to sleep, it alluded me mocking me. I pulled of the covers and opened the duffel bag at the foot of the bed. Inside were clothes, most of them old and stained, a few dress shirts and pants were kept in plastic at the bottom, in case of an emergency. I chose a pair of old black pants, a dark black shirt with faded letter, saying something about some moving serves, last came a beat up black jacket. The sun had risen by the time I left the motel, after checking out, I called for a taxi to the train station.

The train station was a large ugly brown brick building, surrounded by old abandoned factories. Just the place my kind of crowd likes to hang out. There are ways to know if magical beings are present, my favorite is a simple finding charm, all you need is a small bag of sweet wine, a bar magnet with a black and white feather tied to either end. Put the magnet in the bag, close it, picture what your looking for and say "Invo carnus locus" as you hold the bag, if done right the magnet will point in the right direction.

I use a small plastic bag and some cheap wine form some small grocery. Really it doesn’t matter as long as you have the will, and items that roughly fit what you need.

The magnet spun in circles for a moment then pointed straight. The building it pointed at would have fit in perfectly in Berlin after W.W.II, the roof had caved in leaving only the blackened walls on the second and third story’s, the first story looked alright, and something was hiding out there so it was worth a shot.

The doors had most likely once been chained and locked, there was no longer any evidence of the lock, a rusted chain still hun from one of the door handles. I pulled on the door, it gave in after a momentary struggle, the sound it made as it scraped accost the concrete was of nails down a chalk board. The first floor was one large open room with piles of junk in the corners, and a large fire pit in the center, there were no visible signs of habitation.

I pulled out the 12 gauge sawed off shotgun I cared in case of a run in with . . . beings with hostile intent towards me. Moving slowly and causally towards the pile of junk. Half way across the room I stooped and picked up a small pebble. I chucked it at the heap of trash in the corner. Nothing happened, silence spread out like ripples. Without warning a man, rather a ghoul jumped out of the pile and charged me. I pulled the trigger, the blast halted the ghoul were it was. I pulled it again blowing it to pieces, the bloody chunks flew through the air landing with a sound sickeningly similar to rain. The gun shots reverberated through the room.

I walked over to the pile and kicked at it. Bits of junk cascaded down revealing a hollow with in the mound. Inside was a fresh half-eaten human corpse. In the corner, bones were stacked as if to make a doorway, many of the boons had runes painted in human blood on them. At the foot of the door was a pile of human skulls each painted with human blood, and a small black book covered in grime. Behind me a pebble was kicked. I spun around, standing in front of me were three ghouls and behind them a tall muscular ghast. I fired three times, one after another, the shots hit the ghouls. One was had it’s arm blown off, the middle one was blown to bits and the last one changed me unaffected. The one with no arm, looked around, saw its arm on the floor looked at its stump looked back to the floor. It stooped and questioningly picked it up, turning it over in its hand. It grabbed the arm around the wrist and charged forward swinging it as a club. Three more shots, and the last two ghouls were blown to bits. Pools of blood were spreading out over the floor. There was a pause a silence that seemed to go on forever. Then with a blurred flash as the ghast jumped into the air, and ran straight at me. The ghast extended its claws mid leap, as it landed. It swiped out at my chest, I felt my warm blood oozing out of the wounds. I swung the shotgun in a wide high arc hitting the ghast in the temple. I heard the cracking of its skull.
